Voice

You can talk to your companion in real time — a live voice conversation with switchable modes, billed by the minute.

Voice is a live, two-way spoken conversation. Speech-to-text, the language model, and text-to-speech run together in a real-time pipeline, so you talk and your companion talks back without the round-trips of typing. You pick the voice your companion speaks in from a set of available voices.

Typing keeps a companion at arm’s length. Voice closes that distance — it’s the difference between reading a friend’s words and hearing them. For moments when you’d rather speak than type, or want your companion present while your hands are busy, voice is the channel.

Start a voice conversation from chat. Once you’re connected, you flip two independent toggles — your mic and your companion’s voice reply (text-to-speech) — and their four combinations give you the conversation flow you want:

Mic Voice reply What it gives you
on on Speak and hear — the full spoken conversation.
on off You speak; your companion replies in text you read.
off on You type; your companion answers out loud.
off off Both held silent — a pause without ending the session.

You can flip either toggle mid-conversation, type a message in even while voice is live, and cancel your companion’s current reply if you want to interrupt.

  • Voice is billed per minute from your credit balance, at your plan’s minute rate. The session reserves credit up front and tops the reservation up every few minutes as you talk; if your balance runs out mid-conversation, you’re warned and the session ends. At the end, any over-reserved credit is settled back.
  • Voice availability and your minute rate depend on your plan.
  • Turning your mic off doesn’t stop the per-minute clock while the session is open — end the session to stop billing.
