Goals
Your companion can hold goals — things it tracks for you over time, with due dates and follow-up dates — and check in on them on its own initiative. Goals live with your companion, in its Mind space, next to what it remembers about you. See memory & notes for the layer they are stored in.
What it is
Section titled “What it is”A goal is a titled thing your companion keeps. It carries a status, an order among your active goals, and two optional dates: a due date (when it’s meant to be done) and a follow-up date (when your companion will proactively check in on it). Goals are stored as memories, so they’re durable and travel with your companion across conversations and channels.
The title is the goal’s identity — saving a goal with a title that already exists updates that goal rather than creating a duplicate.
Goals are one of your companion’s platform tools: it can create one, list them, change a status, move dates and reorder what’s active, all from inside the conversation.
Why it matters to you
Section titled “Why it matters to you”Most reminders are passive: they sit in a list until you go look. A companion with goals is different — it knows what you’re working toward and brings it up itself, on the follow-up date you set or when the moment fits. That turns “I should really get back to that” into a relationship where someone is, gently, in it with you. This is agency, not a scheduler firing at a fixed time: your companion chooses how and when to raise a goal.
How you use it
Section titled “How you use it”Mostly you talk. Tell your companion what you want to track, and it creates and manages the goal in conversation — including the dates.
To see them, open the companion and go to its Mind space. The portrait’s Mind door already tells you how many there are. Inside, goals are grouped:
- Active goals — what’s live, in the order that matters to you.
- Paused goals — on hold, resumable at any time.
- Completed goals — what you got done.
From there you can move a goal between states, including dismissing one your companion set that you never wanted. What you can ask for in conversation:
- Create or update a goal — give it a title; optionally set a due date and a follow-up date.
- Set the status — active, paused, completed, or dismissed.
- Set or change dates — adjust the due date or the follow-up date as plans shift.
- Reorder — change the order of your active goals so the ones that matter sit on top.
- List and filter — browse goals, optionally filtered by status.
When a follow-up date arrives, your companion can raise the goal with you on its own.
Limits & edge cases
Section titled “Limits & edge cases”- Title is the unique key. Saving with an existing title updates that goal — pick distinct titles for distinct goals.
- Dates use
YYYY-MM-DD. A goal’s due and follow-up dates are plain calendar dates; both are optional. - Status is one of four. A goal is active, paused, completed or dismissed. Dismissed is not completed: it says you never wanted this one, rather than claiming it was achieved.
- Only active goals are carried into the conversation. Pausing or dismissing a goal takes it out of what your companion has in mind, immediately.
- Reordering applies to active goals. Paused, completed and dismissed goals aren’t part of the active ordering.
Where next
Section titled “Where next”- Memory & notes — the Mind space goals live in and the memory layer beneath them.
- Senses & proactivity — how your companion decides when to reach out, including on goals.
- Platform tools — the Goals tool and the ten others.
- Spaces and surfaces — where Mind sits among a companion’s four spaces.
